Sunday, August 10th, 2008 , 15.00 by local time- Yesterday between 9.00 and 10.00 by local time Danijela became the first woman with a serious invalidity in the world who climbed up to Elbrus . After yesterday's return to Terskol in the camp Garabashi , Slobodan decided to remove the camp and place it somewhere between the camp Pruit 11 and the rock Pastuchova , at the height between 4300 and 4400msl , as the wind calmed down , and by the weather forecast last night was to be the most peaceful one , e.i. by his last year's experience , the weather on Elbrus changes in cycles in which there is "a gap " of 1-2 days when the weather is ideal for climbing. Having set the camp above Pruit 11, they went in the tents to take a short rest and after it they set off for the rise at about 2.00 after midnight. To the foot of the rock Pastuchova it took them about an hour as they were relatively near , but it was surprising that they had very good rythm along the rock Pastuchova and they finished the whole distance for less than half an hour. The reason was probably good aclimatisation and recovery that they had during the preparatory rises. Above the rock Pastuchova they started up the serpentines to the part of the path that goes below the East Peak. The sky was clear and almost windless , Slobodan's supposition came true. After 2 hours walk up the serpentines above the top of the rock Pastuchova and along the path below the east peak they were on the part of the path that leads over the saddle. Here on this saddle they made a pause and here the first photos were taken. The view of the north side of Elbrus The view of the south The east peak of Elbrus Danijela is watching the peak These two photos were taken during the rest on the final crossbeam under the very west peak. And finally Danijela Jovanovic became the first invalid woman in the world who climbed to the highest peak of Europe - Elbrus , 5642msl in Russia in the Kavkaz mountains. And there on the peak itself , without wind , it looked like this: After conquering the peak they returned to the camp above Pruit 11 , spent a night and today they climbed down to Terskol. During the climb down from the height camp to the camp Garabashi it was terribly hard because of high temperstures the last year's snow started melting on the glacier , so now the brooks flow everywhere and it is exeptionally hard to walk along such ground as it is very slippery. In fact there is no path where rythmic moving is possible but you must always look for hard ground that does not slip and which is not apt to break so that somebody may fall into the water that flows under . To the station Azau they went down by gondola and to Terskol by taxi. Slobodan looked like this after arriving in Terskol:))))))) Dead man walking…. :)))) |
